Bill Duran & JP
Fishing at Uchi Lake Lodge never seems to stop to amaze. Bill Duran and I caught 600 fish in six and half days. It is UNREAL! We caught a fish every six minutes we fished. Last year, we went in June and caught the majority of our 577 fish in seven days in bays and shallow water with weeds. Live minnows worked well. This year, we fished at the end of July and first week of August. Night crawlers worked in finding the fish. Once we found the school, they hit minnows just as well. This year, we found them in deep water between 15 and 20 feet. We had double-header catches 23 times for walleye. The big ladies were definitely out. The largest walleye was 26 inches. At one point, we counted 16 out of 20 walleye to be over 22 inches. The key is to have the bait on the bottom of the lake. We used spinners, jigs, and crank baits. Service is excellent. Bertha, Sandra, Dave, and Kevin made us feel at home the whole time. We will be back next year starting July 19th. If you are a first timer, come join us, and we will show you some hotspots. We also fished Canada North Lodge for two days and caught an additional 131 fish. That’s a total of 731 fish in eight and a half days. Like I tell my fellow Ilinois fishermen, I’m a genius when I fish in Canada.
This was our second trip to Uchi Lake. The last time was in 2012.
We decided to bring a fish counter this year and ended up with 331 fish in 4 days. There were 3 total in our boat. We targeted Northern Pike the entire trip, but it is impossible not to catch some walleye while throwing lures.
Unlike 2012, we caught several big Northern. I caught a 36″ and a 37″. My dad reeled a 34 1/2″ one in on the last night of fishing. We also had several follow ups including a big 36″+ pike that jumped at a smaller northern my son was trying to get into the boat. Besides the fishing, the scenery is awesome and there is plenty of wildlife to see. We saw bald eagles, a moose with her twins in one of the bays, and even had a Woodland Caribou come into view during shore lunch. Overall it was another great experience. The Uchi staff does a great job and treats everyone like family.
My dad and I were lucky enough to enjoy a father daughter trip at Uchi! All day on the boat catching fish left and right with nights filled with laughter around the camp fire! We caught fish whether it was raining (don’t forget your rain gear!) or shining and were able to enjoy a couple for shore lunch that still has my mouth watering! If you miss your grandmas cooking just head to the kitchen sun up and sun down, Bertha will have a plate full of scrumptious food awaiting your arrival! Kevin and Dave, the two deck hands, were beyond amazing and really made our trip. We enjoyed getting to know them and appreciated all of their knowledge and help with minnows, minnows and more minnows (you will go through more than you ever imagined!) Thanks Uchi for a great trip, see you again soon!
Irvin “Gus” Gustafson
This was my 6th fishing trip to Uchi Lake and it just seems that the fishing there gets better every year! Steve and I caught many, many walleyes over the limit size and the biggest for me this year was 27 1/2 inches. The staff there does a wonderful job of taking care of you and Bertha is the greatest cook in all of Canada. Next year is a must!
This trip marked the 22nd time at Uchi for the group. By the end of the trip everyone was in agreement that this was the best yet. It seems as though the fishing continues to get better, year after year. For only having five guys this year we caught a ton of fish, and in particular a ton big fish. We ended with 26 Walleye’s over 24″ and 11 Northern over 37″. The largest Walleye was a 30″ caught by Jack. Other notable Walleye were a 29″ by Boog and a 28″ by Jack. In the Northern category there was a three way tie for the largest, all three being 39″. An honorable mention would be that Swifty caught three Northern over 37″ in just one day. We are already looking forward to next year… Fish on!

This was the 6th trip for me and the 4th with my two sons (Alex & Sean) and my son-in-law (Billy), and this trip surpassed all of our previous catches (787 in four days was our previous best). As you know us there we only target Northerns and catch Walleye by accident. We keep very good accounts as to who in which boat wins each day and the totals this year were astounding. We fished July 23-27 and the following are the results:
We do not keep separate numbers but 50-75 of these were walleyes. There was an approaching front on Friday with a very spectacular lightening storm after midnight and into Saturday morning. You can see by the numbers that they were really hitting ahead of and after the storm-front passed. We caught 160 before lunch on Saturday with the last on being 42.5″. We decided to head in for lunch on that one. We normally fish after supper but did very little this year as we were tired from the run and cast routine we do. We also had a first for us this year. Sean and Billy were fishing together. Billy has a 24″ northern hooked and a 36″ hit it and he netter both (Yes, we counted 36″). For persons looking to come almost all these were caught with Mepps Cyclops spoons and Daredevle five-of-diamonds and weighted hook with 4″ jigs. As always the staff did a magnificent job; Bertha’s cooking and Kevin with the boats (missed Kevin’s dad Dave this year and we wish him the best). Have already booked next year’s trip and looking forward to coming for the great fishing, comfortable accommodations, good food, friendly staff, wonderful scenery and wildlife. Uchi Lake is the place to go.
David Rotter and Jim Driscoll - Belleair Beach Fl and St Paul MN
Had a great fishing trip Doug and Marilyn and their staff are terrific. Great shore lunch with all the fixens.
Caught lots of walleye and northerns. Lots of very large ones. Be careful for the rocks in the lake. Just take it slow and easy. Caught a 30 plus in walleye and lost a 40 plus inch northern. If you love to fish this is the place to go. I am checking my schedule to book a trip in 2015. We had one day of rain. Lucky. Don’t forget good rain gear and lots of sun screen. I would recommend that you purchase the fish grabber it will make it easy to catch and release and keep the hooks out of the net. Remember a fish can hold its breath about as long as you can, so get the pic quick and get them back in the lake.

This is my 3rd time at Uchi. This is Bill Duran’s 9th time. Each year never disappoints. We planned to catch walleye all week. We caught 668 fish in 8 days. Eight walleye over 25 inches. 225 over 20 inches! The largest walleye was 27 inches (Bill) and northern pike was 36 inches (Bill). Minnows out caught worms and artificial bait by 6 to 1 margin. Catching that many didn’t come by just putting our bait in the water. 3 tips. Put your bait on the bottom of the lake, bring a depth finder to find the right depth, and fish structures. i.e rock ledges The total experience is absolutely wonderful here at Uchi. See you on the lake!
Fricken/Dotz - Wisconsin and California
Great day fishing including a 28″ Walleye. Also, beautiful place and many special memories.
Ed and Connor Kirkpatrick - Crystal Lake, IL, USA
What a fantastic week at Uchi! (Aug 2-6). The fishing was great but the staff and the service they provided made this the best fishing trip we have ever taken.
We were getting a lot of action off of bright colored spoons and spinner baits, and of course minnows. The night bite was awesome.
The Mullally Family - Canandaigua, New York USA
The four of us cam here after several other fly in fishing experiences. We had no idea what to expect.
Our first day on the lake was amazing. My son and I caught 25+ Northern Pike of decent size. My father and uncle targeted Walleye and did fairly well.
Day two only got better. Our first two casts were greeted by large Northerns. The other boat netted walleye after walleye.
This was the first place we have ever had to release so many fish because they were too big. Trophy after trophy came out of this lake, day after day. Walleye and Northern Pike almost anywhere you stop.
Doug, Marilyn, Debbie, Kevin and Bertha are top notch hosts and we look forward to next year!
The Grants - USA
Had a great week at Uchi. we caught over 300 walleyes that where over 25 inches. this place is #1 in Ontario or even Canada for fishing and service, thanks Doug and Marilyn you guys are great. Lots of big walleyes!!
Whittle - Milwaukee, WI
Our last day on the lake proved to be one of our best. My Grandpa landed a 43 inch Northern a little after 9:00 am. It was an exciting moment to see him pull in a fish that big and see the look on his face. I naturally had to follow it up by bringing in a 30 inch Walleye. This was a perfect way to end our last day at Uchi. We had a great time this week and I look forward to coming back!
Tucker - Colorado
6th trip to Uchi and each trip gets better. Great weather, great fishing, great hospitality. Fishing was fantastic as expected. Our group was evenly split between those who were looking for big pike and those who wanted to catch a ton of walleye. Our group managed to bring in some massive fish, and on a couple of occasions, we’d catch 20 fish in as many minutes.
The Vaughan Family - Illinois
We had so much fun. the 3 generations of Vaughan’s. We saw 4 moose and lots of loons. great food and great fishing.
Ty (9) caught a 22″ walleye !!!
Kelley - Plymouth, MN USA
We had a good trip at Uchi lake. Caught walleye consistently every day, every time of the day, in every part of the lake.
Pick your bait, and get ready to catch some fish!
The Banser Party - Chicagoland area

Great trip, excellent weather, already looking forward to next year.
The Luloffs - Winterset, Iowa
My wife and I caught the most fish we have ever caught in Canada in one day yesterday, at various locations on Uchi. We caught a total of 142 fish. I am tired today from all the baiting, netting, and boat maneuvering, but it was a blast! Last night we fished the narrows and 70% of the fish we caught were 20 inches or longer with a 24, 4 – 23s and many 20 – 22 inch fish.
The fishing was great, the service was great, and the accommodations were great. We would like to thank Marilyn, Doug, Kevin, and Debbie for all of their great service. They take care of us and make us feel at home. Today was a good day fishing! Dee caught a nice 28 inch walleye this morning; her first trophy walleye. She was thrilled! We also had a fish on her line at one point, and due to the bend on Dee’s pole, we thought she had a very nice fish. Her pole was bent over double and stayed that way. I was ready on the net and waited while she fought this big fish. All of a sudden the fish came close to the surface, and I could see it was a walleye. It was the biggest walleye I had ever seen in my many years of fishing in Canada. I guessed it to be 35 or 36 inches in length. I stuttered to my wife “TTTTTake YYYYYYour TTTTTime!” I was shocked at how huge it was, and was trying to keep my cool! Unfortunately, all of a sudden the rod went slack and the big fish was gone. My wife reeled in a 16 inch walleye. This monster walleye had come up and swallowed her small walleye as she was reeling it in. Wow – what an experience.
Gus & Jack - Princeton, IL & Granger, IA
Great fishing experience. We were challenged the first couple of days with an easterly wind and learning the lake, but we boated 90 fish each of the last two days. The top prize was a 28″ walleye on the last evening, but we caught 17 walleyes from 21″ to 26.5″ in addition to the big one. Fantastic crew at Uchi Lake Lodge. In addition to our gracious hosts, Doug and Marilyn, our crew – Kevin, Debby, and Bertha did a fabulous job of taking care of us. Bertha prepared great meals all week and Kevin & Debbie met our every need…great attitude by all of them. THANKS, GUYS!!
The Hage Family - South Dakota
If you are looking for a top notch fly-in fishing trip Uchi Lake is the place to go!
Dough and Marilyn go out of their way to make sure you have the best experience possible.
Bertha, with her wonderful home cooked meals, makes sure your belly is never empty. Debbie makes sure you don’t have to lift a finger once you are in camp and Kevin makes sure you don’t head out on the water without a well prepared boat and ample bait.
If all of this isn’t enough, the fishing is great too! Plenty of walleye and pike to go around.
The Hage’s hope to be back soon.
Drayer Family - Noblesville, IN
This place is amazing! Peace and quiet just all of us verse the lake. Each day was an incredible fishing experience with lots of Walleye and Northern Pike everywhere we took the boats too. The amenities and staff are top notch and made us feel like we were part of their family. We have already planned and can’t wait for next year’s trip!
Henderson - Indiana, USA
Our experience with Mailyn and Doug was GREAT! The fishing and hospitality exceeded my expectations. We are booked for next year.
Ryan Graff - Carmel, Indiana, USA
Caught a 29 inch Walleye with my uncle Steve, even though I did most of the fishing that day.
The Harrell’s - Whittier, NC, USA
First Fly-In trip was an amazing success. Uchi Lake Lodge exceeded our expectations. The people work hard to meet every need. Having Kevin prepare shore lunch every day was a real treat.
We caught about 70% pike and 30% walleye since we mostly fished for pike. The only complaint I have is that my wife caught the biggest fish. In one day she got a 30″, 33″, 35″ and 39″ pike. I only managed a 37″ pike but I had the biggest walleye at 26″.
We will return.
Herman and Mike Kathan - Chicago, Illinois, USA
Fishing was fantastic. Northern Pike 41″, 40″, 2 at 38″ and at least 12 between 30″ and 36″. Walleye fishing was also quite good. 29″, 27″, 25″ and at least 14 between 20″ and 24″. Lots of action all day everyday, could not have ask for anything better.
Wiho Papenbrock & Vince Parrott - Kelowna/Quesnel, British Columbia, Canada
It was our last day at Uchi today and the wind made it interesting. Found a couple of Walleye spots and caught fish on every cast. It’s been a great week with several Pike over 30″ and one tipped the scale at 42″. Lots of Walleye over 20″ and we even caught a few over 25″ (Wiho won the prize at 27″). We explored the entire lake over the 7 days and even worked in a morning over at Drake Lake and a day on Leg Lake. The lodge is in a great location near the center of the lake, the staff are fantastic, and meals great. Thanks to everyone at Uchi Lake Lodge!
